Synopsis :
Three matches remain to be played by the amateur footballers coached by Zinedine, 3x90 minutes until they reach the long-awaited upper division. Farid, the goal keeper, is on watch, Ahmed, the president observes. But for 25 years, the most important game has been played on another field, for this team from the Lyon suburbs. The Algerian Sport Association (A.S.A) of Villeurbanne has since 1979 fighting an ongoing match to assert its place in French society. “Algerian Sport Association” – the name itself raises questions far beyond football. The constant confrontation in the love-hate France / Algeria relation finds in the ballgame a deep and unexpected expression. The story of this football club reveals the tough furrow dug by men who were determined to settle. The fathers were immigrant, the sons are French. The love of the game and the passion for football remain. As a child of Algeria said: “An Algerian who doesn’t like football is like a Breton who doesn’t like the sea”.
